Hallmark's (PRODUCT) RED Collection

In October 2007, Hallmark announced its partnership with Bono and Bobby Shriver's (RED) campaign to help raise awareness and funds for the Glob al Fund to help fight AIDS in Africa. The initial launch included holiday and everyday greeting cards, Cards With Sound, gift wrap, and a Hallmark Keepsake Ornament exclusively in Hallmark Gold Crown stores. In January 2008, the line was expended to include more than 150 products, which are available online.

While raising money for the Global Fund, the Hallmark (PRODUCT) RED collection has also created jobs and supported the local economy in Mali, West Africa. The Mali Mud Cloth Bag has generated jobs and income for 221 workers in the Malian cities of Bamako, Mopti, San, and Sevaré. In addition, it represents one of the largest export orders on record for artisan crafts in Mali. Two craftswomen share stories of how creating and exporting Mali Mud Cloth Bags for Hallmark has helped their business and families, but the story behind the bag isn’t the only inspiring story stemming from Hallmark’s relationship with (RED).

We seriously doubt that she knows much about the Product (RED) and Bono's campaign to raise funds for humanitarian causes. Most probably the choice of color is just a coincidence, but it looks good on her and as Posh she must stick to it!

As it has been established already: RED is this season's colour. The strong influence of Bono's campaign imposed to the market. All those I am not sure if all manufacturers and distributors are giving percentage from their sales to The Global Fund, but I am sure that the colour has overtaken the windows displays of most of the shops and stores in Dubai.
Naturally it become the new colour in home decoration and even home appliances.
In 2XL at Al Gurair Centre I discovered very cute kettles in red, that can brighten any kitchen interior. More over as the Dubai Shopping Festival is still on, they are discounted and therefore become reasonable buy.
Apart from that, few other decorative items are on displays. They may be suitable for a modern interior as colour accents.
So folks, hurry to check out the 2XL collection before the end of the festival as the discounts are quite tempting.

Now we can all get involved to help The Global Fund (Link) for Africa by buying the latest fashions, footwear and gadgets. This is the start of what is sure to become a RED revolution.
Red products (Link) are the latest must-have for any card-carrying fashionista with a hearth and soul. If you haven’t heard about it yet, you are sure to soon as the very audible Bono from U2 is the man behind the RED idea. He and Bobby Shriver, the Chairman of DATA – Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa – devised the shame to bring big business, iconic brands and the public together creating a sustainable channel of income for The Global Fund, an organization committed to raising money to stop AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Africa.

Délices de Cartier was launched earlier this year, and takes its name from a Cartier jewelry collection. The bottle, inspired by a Cartier brooch, is gorgeous ; the fragrance was created by Christine Nagel of Quest and features frozen morello cherry, bergamot, pink, white and yellow jasmine, pink pepper, freesia, violet, tonka beans, amber and sandalwood.
Délices starts with peppered citrus; the sweet cherry joins in shortly thereafter and intensifies over the next 30 minutes or so. The dry down is sheer, well-blended florals over amber and sandalwood. After an hour, the cherry is quite subdued, and the base is now powdery and warm. It is a sweet fragrance with vanillic undertones, but in keeping with its target market of women in their 30s it is not as heavily sugared as many of the fruity florals released this year, and the Eau de Toilette version which I am wearing today is very soft and light. Nicely done, even if it is not my sort of fragrance, and less foody than I expected.

The blogosphere is still buzzing about the few week’s ago Oprah episode launching Bono’s (Red) campaign. Bono and the talk show queen took part in a shopping spree on North Michigan Avenue’s famed Magnificent Mile. And funny – they kept ‘bumping’ into celebrity friends like Kanye West and Christy Turlington.

Now I have to give due credit to The It Lists !
Product Red project raises money for AIDS research by encouraging well-known companies like Apple, Armani, or Converse to release special products and donate a portion of the proceeds from those products toward the purchase of AIDS drugs for victims of the disease in Africa. So buy a t-shirt and change the world. Okay as cheeky as I’m being, I do admit feeling emotional as Bono story told about the woman selling the African mudcloth used for the (Red) Converse Chuck Taylors.
I guess the limited (Red) edition will be available at Apple Store at Ibn Baituta, if it reaches Dubai. Cute...........isn't it??

What Works- Flats
As a tall girl (I'm 5'9"), I'm thrilled by the newfound popularity of flats. I used to hate being tall, and although I've come to embrace it, I still try to avoid towering over everyone else. Flats used to be boring- you had your choice of ballet flats or slip-on sneakers, but this season there are flat versions in tons of different styles, materials, colors and prints. You no longer have to sacrifice style for comfort.
Anything metallic or animal print is great for going out, but isn't approporiate for work. If you're wearing something sparkly or metallic, it should be the only the only sparkly or metallic article of clothing or accessory you wear (not counting jewelry). It's fun to add a little sparkle, but overdo it and you'll resemble a disco ball.

Brightly colored flats look great with jeans or an monochromatic outfits. Although I advise against it, if you do choose to wear skinny jeans or leggings, flats are a must. Heels, particularly stilettos, will make you look silly.

The red dresses at the Mall of the Emirates are not so many, but at least some are on display unlike the City Centre, where I didn’t found even one. Here are some pictures from the windows of Coocoon, Forever 21 and one frou-frou dress from ETOILE.

The weather in Dubai is very good for around eight months - beginning from the end of September and ending in May. During that period the city is blooming in various kinds of flowers. There is a large Municipality flower nursery near Garhoud Bridge where every size of plant is available according the season. The prices are lower than the private sector.
I love Petunia and every year from the beginning of October my home is blooming in different petunia’s colors. If you take good care – watering daily and fertilizing frequently the plants, your garden can look really nice until the end of June.
At the Municipality nursery the price per dozen is 6 AED, while just across the road at the private nurseries is 15 AED during the season and at the end is dropping down to 12 AED. I presume that the difference is due to the accessibility and the variety. The private nurseries offer wider spectrum of colors. You can match and mix the landscape of your garden in the color palettes it pleases you, while at the Municipality nursery usually only 2 or 3 colors are grown at the same time and you have to check for more again next month.

The supply in United Arab Emirates with fruits and vegetables is generally very good. The local production is not very well developed due to the climate and the natural resources and is seldom broth to the displays on the biggest supermarkets as Carrefour, Spinneys, Choitrams, The Cooperative Society etc. During the different seasons all different products are imported from different countries. At the moment in Careffour 3 kinds of tomatoes are on offer:

from Jordan for the 2,45 AED per kg

from Holland for 14.95 AED per kg

and plum tomatoes from Holland for 19,95 AED per kg.

As Shopping is one of the main attractions for the Dubai visitors, the retail industry is developed and polished up to a state of art . Every single detail is carefully planed and coordinated few months prior .

Sales at the biggest departments stores are organised few times a year - every 3 months or so, at the end of every season. Usually the sales are also coordinated with the other current events. For example the ongoing sale just started for Eid ( the ending of the Holly Month of Ramadan). A day before the official announcement, when all items are still available in all sizes and colours, the store will invite it's most loyal registered customers with an offer of 10% discount. After that there will be 3 days of 25% discount and than the sale will continue for a month on 50% discount. The last 2-3 days are labeled as ''Future Reductions" and the discounts are up to 75-90%. But the good pieces are gone and hardly you can find something suitable even for throw away prices.

Modern Arabic Tent

Paris Gallery is my favorite shop. It opened in 1993 at the Blue Souq in Sharja and the size of the shop was no more than 80 meter sq. Today in every Mall across the Emirates there is a Paris Gallery store. And is not surprising at all. Paris Gallery is the largest agent and retailer of hi-end cosmetics, parfumes and designer accessories as bags and watches.
Prices are the same as in Areej or Jashanmal, but varaety is bigger. Red is their color and even the website is done in red. It is worth to click here.
